Overview 

The University of Miami has established the Wulkan Family American Public Transportation Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund for graduate students with an interest in a future career in the public transportation industry. This scholarship provides tuition assistance of $2,000 to one graduate student and will be used to offset the recipient’s tuition balances, with $1,000 applied in fall and $1,000 applied in spring.


Eligibility and Nomination Process

Nominees must be new or a continuing degree-seeking graduate students at the master's or doctoral level with a demonstrated interest in the public transportation industry as a career. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular citizenship and leadership activities. International applicants are eligible. The student must enroll at UM in both the fall and spring semesters of the academic year that the award is made.

Graduate programs must directly nominate eligible students. Nomination packets consisting of the following documents are to be submitted by the graduate program to Dr. Tiffany Plantan at t.plantan@miami.edu.

  • Nominee’s application for admission to graduate study
  • Official transcripts from each post-secondary school attended
  • Official entrance exam scores (e.g. GRE, GMAT, TOEFL)
  • CV or resume
  • UM acceptance letter
  • Letters of recommendation that were submitted with student’s application for admission
  • Nomination letter from the graduate program director or department chair
  •  1-page (12 point font, Times New Roman, single-spaced) personal statement from the nominee outlining their career goals in the public transportation industry and how they would benefit from this scholarship
